Summer in Washington, DC Scholarship

Starting in 2005, The Syracuse University Alumni Club of Washington, DC began offering a scholarship in the amount of $1,500 to a qualifying Syracuse University student. This scholarship is intended to provide financial assistance to a student that will be spending the summer in Washington, DC as a part of a professional or educational growth opportunity. The recipient must be enrolled full time at Syracuse University, demonstrate a financial need and participation in or employment with an organization or academic program that will contribute to the recipient’s educational or career goals.

The application process has ended for Summer 2008.

The winners for 2008 are:

Brian Holuj - Maxwell '09 - received the Harold Rosenthal Fellowship at the Department of Defense - Pentagon, where he will intern at the Office of Stability Operations, which deals with stabilizing efforts in troubled regions throughout the world.

Andrew Jesmain - Maxwell '08 - summer intern with Hill & Knowlton's Corporate Social Responsibility team, where he will integrate his interest in business strategy and security with energy and climate matters, while getting experience in public relations.

Past winners:

2007 - Kevin Hoang - College of Law '09 - selected as a Burton Blatt Institute Fellow for 2007 specializing in issues in disability law.

2007 - Sara Covino - Arts & Sciences/ Maxwell '08 - interned at General Electric gaining insight working with an NGO.

2006 - Kathleen DeRitter - Newhouse '07 - interned with a PR firm in DC as a public relation/affairs specialist.

2006 - Lauren D'Angelo - Arts & Sciences '08 - interned for WAVE, Inc., a educational non-profit in DC.

2005 - Jennifer Pelton - a Political Science major and member of the class of 2007. She was an unpaid intern with Save the Children in DC.

2005 - Jaisha Wray - a graduate student in the Maxwell School studying International Relations and Public Relations. She interned for the Department of State in the International Narcotics League.
